North Central’s Board of Directors have awarded the Peter E. Thomassen Scholarship to the following recipients:
Nick York of Creighton
Spencer Frederick of Verdigre
Each recipient has been awarded $1,000 to use towards their 2011-2012 academic tuition. To be eligible to be considered for this scholarship applicants must be enrolled in the Utility Line Program at Northeast Community College (NECC) and must be a North Central customer or a dependent of a North Central customer.
As our nation is facing a shortage of utility line workers, largely because the baby boomers are eligible to retire in the next five to 10 years, it will be individuals such as these listed above who have selected a career in the utility line field, who will keep the power on. North Central encourages individuals who enjoy working outdoors, working with their hands, are safety conscious and who like a challenge to consider a career in the electric utility industry. In almost two decades North Central has awarded this scholarship to several recipients who have selected the electric utility industry for their career. This scholarship was established in 1990 in honor of the later Peter E. Thomassen for his dedicated years of service to the district. Thomassen served North Central for 36 years before retiring from his position of general manager.
